WHAT IS FHE?
Family Health and Education (FHE) is a Trust working for the welfare of women and children living in the slums of Delhi and surroundings. It was established on 26th March, 2003 as a Public Charitable Trust under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 and the Income Tax Act, 1961. It is based in South Delhi with its office at Hauz Khas and a Center-Muskaan at Hauz Khas Village. It specializes in medical, educational and health care programmes. The main funding for FHE comes from the donations made by organizations, friends and volunteers.
FHE has been arranging medical camps aiming at prevention of infectious diseases, treatment of acute illnesses, and providing the much needed immunization. It has also been instrumental in conducting medical clinics and educating girls in the slum areas of Delhi. It has also been imparting skills to women by organizing stitching classes, classes on nutrition and cooking nutritional food, sanitation, cleanliness etc.
At present FHE has two main Projects i.e. Family Health Care (FHC) - the medical clinic and Muskaan-the afternoon school at Hauz Khas Village.
OBJECTIVE
FHE works on the principle that if you educate a man, you educate a person; but if you educate a woman, you educate a family. It primarily aims at providing medical care, vaccinations and improving the health conditions of women and children. It stands for the cause of girl child.
FHE envisages healthy life and clean living for people in the slum areas by giving classes on nutrition,sanitation and cleanliness. Its purpose is to enhance the quality of life of people living in such areas and remove poverty by providing vocational training to women. It also strives to fight anemia and malnutrition prevalent among women and children in the impoverished slums. It aspires to bring about clean living conditions in the slum areas of Delhi and also requests local authorities to fumigate such areas to prevent breeding of germs. It aims in its own way to contribute to the development of the poorest sector of India by educating the girl children and focusing on their overall personality development.
FHE works majorly with the help of volunteers and aims to involve the youth in volunteering and contributing to social causes. It seeks to motivate youngsters and adults to lend a helping hand to those in need.
HOW CAN ONE BE PART OF FHE?
Family Health and Education operates with the help of contributions made by organizations, friends, volunteers and well-wishers in terms of donations, sponsorships or taking out time and volunteering. One can become a part of FHE and support this cause and lend a helping hand in its projects by donating money, clothes, books, stationery etc. or sponsoring medicines, nutritious food, basic healthcare products and taking time out to visit the place and help with its activities.
